President opens 'Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium'.


"Any sportsman or sportswoman in the country from Dondra to Point Pedro could now engage in sports activities in any playgroun", said President Mahinda Rajapaksa when he declared open the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium today in Diyagama in Homagama.

He pointed out that it was more important to safeguard the country's resources rather than selling them. During the time of laying foundation stone to the playground, bombs were exploded in many parts of the country. The present government was able to end that period. Opportunities have now been created to travel in buses or trains without fear or suspicion,observed the President.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa mentioned the missions carried out by the present government for the future of the children. It is not proper to speak in a manner polluting the minds of the children. The words of certain people cause a harmful impact on the minds of the children. The government has not spent any money to build the international playground. Funds from the President's fund and numerous contributions were used in this connection. It is the responsibility of all to safeguard this resource. The playground is able to conduct both tournaments of national and international level.

The government, un-deterred by the main obstacle, the war, has implemented massive developing projects such as constructing highways and enhancing sports facilities.
