Prasanna Ranatunga next WPC CM?

There is a strong possibility of UPFA Gampaha district leader Prasanna Ranatunga being appointed as Chief Minister of the Western Province, a senior government minister has said today (April 27).

After discussions with party seniors President Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to take a final decision on the top position soon.

Mr. Ranatunga obtained the highest number of preferential votes at the Western Provincial Council polls held on Saturday. Former Chief Minister Reginald Cooray received 72,951 preferential votes from Kalutara district.

Duminda Silva topped the Colombo district preferential votes list with 165,328 votes and Thilanga Sumathipala followed next with 159,613 votes. JHU strongman Udaya Gammanpila came third with 116,644 votes.
