Electricity for liberated areas in the North

(Colombo Lankapuvath February 21) The World Bank (WB) will assist a special accelerated programme to provide electricity to liberated areas in the North.

Electricity will be provided by replacing damaged transformers. Distribution sub-stations will also be launched, Power and Energy Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne said.

The Minister and a World Bank delegation led by Regional Manager (South Asia) Salaman Zaheer held discussions at the Power and Energy Ministry last week regarding immediate restoration of electricity infrastructure and distribution facilities destroyed due to three decades of terrorism.

The Ministry has already launched a program to develop electricity facilities along the A-32 and A-9 roads and the adjacent liberated areas.
